About

Hello! My name is Lydia Oppong, creator of akwilydia. I’m married to my best friend with three amazing kids. We live in New Jersey. I have a day job from 9am-5pm, a mother and a wife around the clock and 3am is when I put my soul into my designs to bring it to life. I went to the Art Institute of New York City to enhance my passion as a fashion designer. There, I studied designing, patterning making, fabrics and sewing.

I interned as a tailor, designer, pattern-maker and fabric swatcher in various fabric and designing companies. I was incredibly thrilled to be given the opportunity to work with Mood fabrics-one of the biggest fabric companies in New York, as often seen on project runway. In doing all that I learned a lot about everything that I needed to know. After working for these companies my passion grew even stronger to want to start my own design line. I realized that I wanted to work for myself. It took a long time, working seven days a week and non-existent social life to get my company started.

I love to create bags and accessories because sharing my ideas with others gives me great satisfaction. I was born and raised in Ghana. I love prints; I love bold and beautiful colors because they have such fun feel. My designs are for all age and all kinds of women who are not afraid to be who they are. I hand pick all my materials. Great thinking goes into everything I design. My products are one of a kind. A hint of culture, a bit of western living and a whole lot of passion go into every product I make. My ideas comes from deep within me.

I sincerely thank you for stopping by my store. I know you will love what you picked. Please feel free to email me if you have any question.
